Blue Crab Pottery

Blue Crab Pottery is the creation of Richard Ashburn. Richard’s career as a potter came about quite by accident. His wife had enrolled in a pottery class and asked that he accompany her. In the very first class, Richard discovered that he had fallen in love with the clay and the amazing, unlimited possibilities it offered.

Since then, his skills have grown tremendously. He now produces a very successful line of functional pottery: platters, covered casserole dishes, cookie jars, etc. The incredibly realistic blue crabs that he fashions to adorn the pottery pieces have become Richard’s trademark. Many people even debate whether or not the crabs are real; a significant complement to his artistic abilities.

The realistic nature of the crabs, particularly their protruding eyes and their spindly legs also makes them somewhat fragile and they should be handled with some care. Using the crab as a handle without supporting the weight of the pottery piece is not recommended. These items are all oven safe.
